Psychological Assessment and testing is used for many purposes, including diagnosis, guiding treatment, and accessing available services. Assessments differ depending on the presenting issue, and your psychologist will recommend the best assessment pathway to get the answers you need. We involve the client, parents, teachers and other treatment providers where possible.
Some purposes of assessment include (but not limited to):
Dee offers comprehensive clinical assessment for children aged 6+, adolescents and adults
Assessments available:
It can be hard to compare ‘apples to apples’ when booking a psychometric assessment. Fees vary significantly between practices. You may like to enquire about the level of training of your psychologist, whether they are endorsed as a Clinical Psychologist, which tests/questionnaires/measures that will be utilised, the number of hours allocated to your assessment, and the hourly rate charged for your assessment.
We offer exceptional quality psychometric assessments- administered by experienced Clinical Psychologist, Dee Thompson. Dee is trained to a Masters level in assessing, diagnosing, and providing evidence-based recommendations and treatment plans.
Luna Clinical Psychology Services pricing is transparent and straightforward. We operate on an hourly rate of $250 for Clinical Psychology assessment services. You will be contacted to discuss your specific Clinical Assessment needs and an estimate of costs will be provided to you. Each assessment is unique and tailored to the individual child or adult, and the goals of the assessment (e.g., for funding applications, support needs, treatment planning recommendations, insurance etc). Dee will explain exactly what is needed and why- this will be decided in consultation with you and a costing agreement prepared for your approval prior to commencing the assessment process. A deposit will be required to schedule time for your assessment.
Psychological Assessment with the Luna Clinic will generally involve:
· a comprehensive clinical interview and background history from an adult seeking assessment or parent/s or guardian/s of a child seeking assessment (90 mins)
· in-clinic assessment of the child/adolescent (50 mins) (where applicable)
· distribution, administration and scoring of appropriate assessment screening measures
· review of available relevant medical, health and occupation/school records
· interpretation and clinical analysis of all information provided
· preparation of either a brief report (up to 3 pages) or a comprehensive report with a diagnosis (if required)
· Feedback session with either the adult seeking the assessment or the parent/s or guardian’s of a child assessee (and, where developmentally appropriate, the child/adolescent) (50 mins)
· Provision of a 2 x copies of the report from a Clinical Psychologist with recommendations regarding treatment or learning support accommodations (where appropriate or required).
Dee aims to provide much more than just a diagnosis or label. She will work with you and/or your child to identify early signs of possible issues including reviewing past school reports or employment performance reviews, medical, developmental and family history. Dee will spend time talking with parents, teachers or significant others to thoroughly understand you (or your child's) experience. A comprehensive Clinical Psychological assessments involves multiple sessions, and Dee will tailor to these to your individual history and current functioning in a caring and empathetic way. She will piece every bit of available ‘evidence’ together to understand your concerns. This attention to detail allows Dee to make an informed decision about which psychometric testing would be most appropriate to investigate your possible condition objectively.
Luna Clinical Psychology Services utilises gold-standard psychometric testing batteries that have been empirically validated and shown to be reliable. The results of these are generally easily understood and recognised by other treating professionals including paediatricians, psychiatrists, doctors and allied health professionals such as speech therapists and occupational therapists.
Dee takes the responsibility of clinically assessing and diagnosing her clients very seriously. In some cases, receiving confirmation of a diagnosis is a relief, helping an individual to come to a more compassionate understanding of themselves in context of their experiences. For others, a diagnosis may feel like a hurdle and Dee will work with you to help you to understand how to best work with your, or your child's, unique profile of strengths and challenges.
Thorough information gathering and collation of comprehensive assessment results allows Dee to provide you with comprehensive recommendations to support your, or your child's, personal strengths and to reduce the impact of identified difficulties upon learning, working, relationships and day-to-day life. She will also provide links to external resources and support options, and she will provide information about ‘best practice’ treatment options.
As a committed neurodiversity-affirming practitioner with lived experience, Dee will endeavour to ensure that neurodivergent needs and sensory requirements are catered for, and that reports (wherever appropriate) are provided in identity-affirming and supportive language.
